Kenya is a country in East Africa with coastline on the Indian Ocean. It encompasses savannah, lakelands, the dramatic Great Rift Valley and mountain highlands. It's also home to wildlife like lions, elephants and rhinos. From Nairobi, the capital, safaris visit the Maasai Mara Reserve, known for its annual wildebeest migrations, and Amboseli National Park, offering views of Tanzania's 5,895m Mt. Kilimanjaro. Best period to visit Kenya is from June to October and remember to take adequate sun cream, mosquito repellent and dusk masks. Its also a bit cold during the season so you might want to take a light jacket with you.

Day 01 - Nairobi
We arrived in Nairobi in the afternoon checked into the hotel and refreshed ourselves after a long flight. Later, we roamed around Nairobi to get a hang of the city. You find many street sellers and local shops in this area and in case you want to buy something from Kenya, Nairobi is the place.

Day 02 - Maasai Mara
Our safari started on day 2! We booked a camping safari with a local tour guide and he picked us up early in the morning. It was a long drive but the views were nice. Arrived at Maasai Mara at around 3pm. Checked into our campsite there after and relaxed a little. The campsites are pretty neat and decent. Each tent can accomadate two people and they have beds and private bathrooms (with hot water as well). Late in the evening, we did a small game drive (safari tour) and was able to witness a glimpse of wildlife including Deer, Buffaloes etc.

Day 03 - Maasai Mara game drive
Day 3 was a full day game drive in Maasai Mara National Reserve. The safari vehicles are either Vans or Jeeps (both of which have the ability to open the roof so you can stand inside the vehicle and enjoy the wildlife). Maasai Mara National Reserve is an area of preserved savannah wilderness in southwestern Kenya, along the Tanzanian border. Its animals include lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras and hippos. Wildebeest traverse its plains during their annual migration. The landscape has grassy plains and rolling hills, and is crossed by the Mara and Talek rivers. The area nearby is dotted with villages (enkangs) of Maasai people. We had a picnic lunch in the forest and came back to the campsite late in the evening.

Day 04 - Lake Nakuru
We woke up at 6am and visited the Maasai village. Cost per person for this village is US$10 and it allows you to understand how the local tribes in this area actually live and the real struggles they face on a daily basis. They also welcome you with a traditional Maasai dance and teach you to make fire with two wooden sticks :) A recommended visit indeed! After the Maasai visit, we drove to Nakuru and arrived there in the evening. Nakuru is a small town but famous for Rhinos and Flamingos :)

Day 05 - Lake Nakuru game drive
After having a scrumptious breakfast, we headed to Lake Nakuru in search of Flamingos & Rhinos. Lake Nakuru is covered with flamingos and it is a beautiful site to witness, especially when groups of flamingos fly together over the lake. After admiring the flamingos, we also got the opportunity to witness some lazy Rhinos. Thereafter, we headed to Amboseli and arrived there late at night.

Day 06 - Amboseli game drive
Amboseli was warmer than both Nakuru and Maasai Mara. It is also very dusty. We did a full day game drive in Amboseli and was lucky to witness so many herds of Elephants. The African elephants are much larger than Asian elephants and almost all of them have tusks. After a dusty game drive (which was worth it), we came back to the campsite late in the evening. Whilst coming back, we were able to see the magnificent view of Mount Kilimanjaro (located in Tanzania) as well. Kilimanjaro is the highest point in Africa at 5895 meters.

Day 07 - Nairobi
On the 7th day, our safari tour came to an end and we left Amboseli after breakfast to arrive in Nairobi. We went to the Tanzania border to drop some of our friends and it was an interesting thing to see how two countries are just separated from a small cement wall :D On the way, we stopped for lunch and arrived in Nairobi in the afternoon. There are many hotels and guest houses in Nairboi. Make sure you book a legitimate one (especially if you are booking online) as there are fake hotels as well.

Day 08 - Leave Kenya
This was our last day and we had to leave Kenya early in the morning to catch our flight. Kenya has been nice to us and gave us many beautiful memories :)
